Decorations of the Israel Firefighting and Rescue Service

Fire and rescue decorations are awarded to firefighters and volunteers starting in 2012, according to the law of the National Fire and Rescue Authority, similar to the decorations of the Israel Police and the Prison Service. The decorations are:

These decorations may also be awarded to a citizen who has committed an act of supreme heroism with self-sacrifice, or an act in which there is a display of unusual courage, or courage worthy of being an example, by lawfully exercising the power of arrest or by lawfully fulfilling the duty to assist a police officer in making a lawful arrest, or in the face of a heinous crime or public disaster.
The Medal of Valor was first awarded after the Carmel fire in a ceremony held on January 24, 2011, to three firefighters, Major General Danny Hayat, Fire Chief Uri Samandaev, and Fire Inspector Elad Rivan, who sacrificed their lives trying to save the guards who were trapped in a firestorm.

Israel Fire brigade Citation

Fire and Rescue Commissioner's Citation

The Fire and Rescue Commissioner may award a citation, similar to the Commissioner's Medal, for an outstanding act or behavior that is not compatible with the awarding of one of the decorations.
The ribbon of the citations has the Fire and Rescue Commissioner's flag in the center between the fire department symbols.

Previous design of the Fire and Rescue Decorations

Until 2023, the design of the decorations was initially based on the design of the police decorations, with the parapet, the main part of the decoration, made of metal in the shape of a flame and containing elements of the fire department symbol, including a firefighter's helmet and two crossed firefighter axes, a Star of David and an olive leaf.
In the past, a Service Medal was also awarded for service that made an extraordinary contribution to achieving a fire department goal, regardless of whether the contribution was in a single act or through the demonstration of perseverance or exemplary devotion to the cause.
