Medal of Distinguished Service of the Israel Police

Hebrew name: Itur HaMofet

The decoration is awarded for an act of exemplary bravery. This decoration is awarded by the Chief Commissioner of Police.

Design

The designer of the medal was Nathan Karp. The original medal is a silver disc of 39 mm diameter and weight 25 gr., showing a stylized candelabra within which is an olive branch above the police emblem. The ribbon is blue with two thin white stripes. The medals were first minted by Kretschmer of Jerusalem in 1974 and issued by the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation, of silver. Later productions are of nickel

Simche Czin and Mordechai Lichtenstadter were walking through the Old City, when they came across the terrorist stabbing policeman Naaman Fares. Lichtenstadter jumped into action, pulling the terrorist off of Fares, who, despite being wounded, managed to shoot the attacker dead. Czin and Lichtenstadter were both presented with a Civil Exemplary Decoration by Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer and Police Commander Attach Yitzhak Almog - becoming the first non-Israelis to ever receive the citation.
