Award ceremony of the IDF Marching medals

The following pictures show GOC Southern Command, Maj. Gen. Haim Laskov present the medal and document of the IDF marches to soldiers and even pin them on the uniform of a soldier. On the second picture, Laskov presents the medal to what is probably a Dutch female citizen. The idea of the IDF marches was based on the Dutch 4 Days Marches of Nijmegen. The officer standing next to Laskov wears the ribbons of the War of Independence and the Sinai Campaign.

Haim Laskov was promoted to Chief of Staff in January 1958, so this picture was taken before this time. The Sinai Campaign ribbon was awarded in 1957, so it can be concluded that the picture dates from the 1957 marches.

Close up Presenting the IDF Marching medals 1957

A careful look at the picture of the proud soldier reveals 3 IDF marching medals, above the Sinai Campaign ribbon and the Dutch 4-Days Marches medal. It appears that this soldier took part in the marches of 1955, 1956, 1957.
