| Here we show an Australian
medal issued by the Victorian Education Department (EVD), to school children
to commemorate ANZAC Day, 25 April, in 1918.
The medal was sold on behalf of
the Australian branch of the British Red Cross Society. It was made by
Stokes and Sons, Melbourne, in a variety of metals including bronze,
silvered bronze, silver, and gold. The diameter of the medal is 28 mm.
On the front of the medal
appears a bust of a uniformed soldier wearing hat facing left; around, HONOR
TO THE A.I.F. below in small letters the mint initials, S&S. The
initials HH refer to Harry Harvey, an art assistant at the EVD who designed
the bust.
The reverse of the medal Incuse on scroll which rests
