War of Independence commemorative medals

After the Declaration of Independence on the 14th of May 1948, Israel was invaded by a military coalition of Arab states the following morning. The War of Indepence was formally ended with the 1949 Armistice Agreements.
On the orders of first prime minister David Ben-Gurion, the Israel Defense Forces was formed on 26 May 1948 and began to operate as a conscript military, drawing its initial recruits from the already existing paramilitaries of the Yishuv, namely Haganah, the Irgun, and Lehi.
We display here commemorative medals of events that took place during that war.
