Medals of the Judaic Heritage Society

The Judaic Heritage Society was an American organization based in New York that produced commemorative medals celebrating Jewish history, culture, and achievements. It was particularly active during the late 1960s and 1970s. Its president, Robert Weber, initiated ambitious medallic projects intended to preserve Jewish heritage through the art of sculpture. The Society collaborated with artists, historians, and the Franklin Mint to produce collectible series depicting important personalities, historical events, and milestones in Jewish and Zionist history. Obviously, these medals are not Israeli medals but because of the connection with Israel, we present them here nevertheless.

The Medallic History of the Jewish People

Among its best-known projects was The Medallic History of the Jewish People, a collection of 120 medals covering Jewish history from biblical times to the establishment of the State of Israel. Each medal weighs 26.4 grams of sterling silver and has a diameter of 38.4 mm. The reverse of each medal describes the history of the individual. The idea of the medal series was conceived by Robert Weber. They were made by the Franklin Mint and the first medals were issued in August 1969, at a rate of two medals per month. Each medal was accompanied by a leaflet explaining the personality or event depicted on it.
