The Israeli Commemorative Society was a private, U.S.-based mail-order organization (operating during the 1970s) that commissioned and marketed limited-edition commemorative art, medals, silver ingots, and bronze sculptures related to Israeli history and Jewish art. Though these are obviously not Israeli medals, we present them here because of their connection to Israel.
One of the society's products was the medal series "Twelve Tribes of Israel",
a 12-piece .999 fine silver medal set created by Salvador Dalí to celebrate
Israel's 25th anniversary, minted by the Medallic Art Company in New York. The twelve
medals are of
varying weights, with only a few having the same weight. This is due to the
individual fine art work designed for and on each medallion.
